How to bowl a bowling ball
- Grip: Insert your middle and ring fingers, followed by your thumb.
- Approach: Walk towards the lane with steady steps.
- Swing: Let your arm swing naturally back and forth.
- Release: At the line, release the ball as it reaches your ankle, keeping your arm straight and following through.
Learn The Lingo!
When all ten pins are knocked down with one ball. You get 10 points for these pins, plus the points of the next ball thrown
All 10 pins are knocked over with two consecutive balls. You get 10 points for this plus the points of the next pins that the next ball knocks down
A game consists of 10 frames (or turns) per person.
This is the line at the start of the lane – don’t put your foot over it, or else your turn will be disqualified.
These are the sections on either side of the lane where the ball ends up if they come off the lane or you miss.
A frame is one turn.
This is when you get two strikes in a row.
This is when you get three strikes in a row.

Choosing Your Bowling Ball
You may be wondering, how do I pick the right bowling ball for me? Heres a short guide:
Size: Choose a ball where your fingers slide in comfortably – snug, not tight or loose.
Weight: Pick a weight you can lift easily and crontrol without straining.
Rule of Thumb: Aim for a ball around 10% of your body weight, or whatever feels comfortable after a few test swings.
How to Hold: Thumbs in the bottom hole, middle and ring fingers in the top two. Keep your grip relaxed and steady.
Scoring
Understanding how scoring works can help you aim higher, compete with friends, or impress others with a system that might seem tricky at first.
One game of bowling consists of 10 frames, with a minimum score of zero and a maximum of 300.
We score in “pins” – like in football they score in “tries”.
